On March 17, 2021, a 21-year-old gunman went on a shooting rampage at three Atlanta-area spas, murdering eight people. Six of the eight people were of Asian descent and seven of the eight were women. There are no words to express the disgust, horror, and grief we feel after this incident.
Since the start of the pandemic, COVID-19 has been used as an excuse to hate and belittle members of the Asian American community. During the course of the pandemic, there have been 3,800 reported hate crimes against the Asian American community. Women have been targeted at a higher rate than men, making up 68% of the reported cases.
ReflectUS aims to empower all women, supporting them in their leadership journey. This includes our fellow Asian American sisters. There is no shortage of obstacles and hurdles that women must face, which is particularly true for minority women. We stand with the Asian American community today and every day and condemn the hate and abuse they are experiencing.
We must not sit back while these atrocities take place before our eyes. We demand that those who commit these crimes be held accountable and addressing these vicious attacks be made a top priority.
We stand as allies.
Stop Asian Hate.
