State Network

From the Ground Up

The ReflectUS “From the Ground Up” State Network will introduce legislative and policy initiatives on a local, state and national level designed to increase access to government power for poor and low-income women, benefitting all women. With a focus on institutional change, ReflectUS will advocate for policies and legislative changes that levels the playing field for women to run for and be elected to office.

“From the Ground Up” State Network Blueprint

ReflectUS is a coalition of nine leading women’s representation organizations engaging over 100,000 women across the country. The ReflectUS “From the Ground Up” State Network will work toward gender parity in government leadership at all levels by engaging grassroots organizations for capacity building for poor and low-income women who are already leaders in their communities. These women are directly affected by policy changes but are not being tapped for appointed positions or asked to run for office through traditional leadership pipelines because of systemic and institutional barriers. To reduce the obstacles and include all women in the political process to affect change, the Coalition will seek a more reflective government, ensuring that policies and legislation address the most vulnerable Americans’ needs.

Community Organizing

ReflectUS will work with poor and low-income women who are already leaders in their communities to amplify their voice and give them the tools and resources for political leadership. The ReflectUS coalition of nine leading women’s representation organizations is the only coalition bringing together women from across the political aisle in one network. Community organizing means empowering directly affected people to lead change efforts. ReflectUS “From the Ground Up” State Network is building a national system for directly affected, volunteer grassroots women leaders to encourage, empower, support, and connect them with resources to help them run for office.

Capacity Building

By equipping female leaders with the right tools resources, and data they can make headway into public office, advocating for marginalized communities and systems changes towards a more reflective democracy, thereby joining current efforts in the women’s representation field. Through the ReflectUS “From the Ground Up” State Network, we will create a structure for poor and low income women to obtain, improve, and retain the skills and knowledge that they need to survive, adapt and thrive in a politically driven post-pandemic world.

Legislative and Policy-Driven Strategy

Through ReflectUS “From the Ground Up” State Network we will introduce legislative and policy initiatives on a local, state and national level designed to increase access to government power for poor and low-income women, benefitting all women. With a focus on institutional change, ReflectUS will advocate for policies and legislative changes that levels the playing field for women to run for and be elected to office.

Systemic Barriers to Access

The ReflectUS “From the Ground Up” is also designed to address the institutional and individual barriers limiting poor and low income women’s ability to serve in government capacity. ReflectUS will engage women in a process of learning about the barriers women face in running for and serving in public office, engaging them in policy advocacy aimed at eliminating institutional barriers, and providing them with capacity building towards serving in political leadership positions.

ReflectUS “From the Ground Up” State Network

The ReflectUS State Network brings together and supports women’s representation efforts across the country. Through information sharing, solidarity support, and networking, we develop best practices for moving the field forward to achieve broad-based wins. Our goal for the State Networks will be to work with grassroots organizations on the ground to help them identify key leaders who are directly affected and move those leaders into government leadership position pipelines.
